I was just asked the most interesting question.
is this question valid?
A computer with a host IP address of 10.10.5.1 sends a data packet with a destination, IP address of 10.10.5.2. A subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 is being used. Determine whether the packet stays in the LAN or is sent to the gateway.
Of course any question is valid. But is it a good question, is probably a better question. Read more... (512 words, estimated 2:03 mins reading time)
MAC VPN is another Layer 2 Ethernet network that I’m going to start covering in this blog. I have a bunch of different things that I’m going to cover
I’ve heard it called the “next new thing”
I need to cover :
- EVPN Architecture and Benefits
- Pros and cons of EVPN versus VPLS
- Pros and cons of EVPN versus OTV
- Pros and cons of EVPN versus PBB and that whole debacle
- H-EVPN (hierarchical)
- EVPN Scaling / Resiliency
- evpn-NNIs
- EVPN to 4761 VPLS Interconnections
- EVPN to 4762 VPLS Interconnections
- A couple enhancements / changes I would like

So, I’ve been doing this for around 4 months. I’ve had a few comments, but mostly what I see is indifference or not really getting any traction. I’d like to see a few more people get involved either to make it more interesting or to get some conversation / debate going on different topics. A healthy debate is always interesting.
I’m looking for anybody who is fairly technical and competent. I’m not going to allow anybody who is trying to gather research or allow anybody who is trying to promote their own company or their own service / product. Read more... (188 words, estimated 45 secs reading time)

MPLS VPN versus VPLS.
Both MPLS VPN and VPLS perform some basic functions for a generic Business customer. However there are a couple of generic differences that have to be accounted for prior to the decision to go with a MPLS VPN

Well, not is Ethernet over, but what all is Ethernet running over? That’s quite a question. Let me make a list off the top of my head and then Google to see what I missed. Read more... (542 words, estimated 2:10 mins reading time)
- Ethernet over sonnet / SDH. Pretty self explanatory. Stuff the Ethernet frame inside of a Sonet / SDH frame and you are good.
- Ethernet over DWDM, just a different set of bits riding the wave
